Frequently Asked Questions at Registration

Q.  My child has never played lacrosse before. Is this program appropriate for him/her? Can s/he play ‘down’ a level to get a feel for the game?
A.  Our program is designed to be a developmental program offering the same opportunities for those who have played before and those who are new.  Our coaches excel at teaching the fundamental skills and concepts of the game and design practices to best serve players of all skill levels.

You must register your child for participation according to his/her gender and grade in school.  For insurance and league participation reasons we cannot allow players to participate in program levels for which they are not eligible.

Q. My child is also involved in other sports or extracurricular activities.  What about conflicts?
A. We know that many of our participants have several activities scheduled for any given week and we understand that there are conflicts.  We work with other programs in town to minimize conflicts and to allow our players to meet their other obligations.

Q. How will I hear about cancellations, practice changes, games schedules, etc?
A. Most of our communication is accomplished by email and some by bulletins on our web site.  At registration, please give us your preferred email address and then make sure that the address given will accept emails from LeagueAthletics.com.  If your contact information changes during the season, please go to Edit My Account and make the necessary changes. Regular checks of our website, ccyouthlacrosse.com, will allow you to see bulletins as they become available.

Q. My child is new to lacrosse and is interested in just trying it.  Can s/he participate in practices but not in games?
A. We cannot force your child to play in games.  However, it’s our experience that once they have played in practice all of our participants want to play in a game.  Additionally, we feel that playing in a game is an important lesson in learning the fundamentals.  The skills taught in practice are those that one needs in a game and a practice environment does not give the individual the same opportunity to match skill to moment during the game.

Q. What is the “Fields Fee”?
A.  Several youth sport programs (soccer, football and lacrosse) that use the grass and turf fields in Concord are assessed a fee.  This fee is passed directly to the fields committee and is currently $35 per player/per season.  These fees cover annual field maintenance and the long term replacements of the turf fields at the high school.

Q.  Why do I need to sign up my child for US Lacrosse?
A.  All Boys participants in CCYL are required to sign up for US Lacrosse for insurance purposes.

*All Girls are required to sign up for insurance via Founders Lacrosse League (FGLL)

Q.  My child is new to lacrosse, what equipment is required?
A.  Both boys and girls have required equipment to participate.  Please review our Equipment tab for a detailed breakdown.  Lacrosse equipment is expensive so you will want to plan accordingly.
